Oxford Handbook of Medieval Central Europe

Coedited by our Head of Department and with contributions from our faculty, the Oxford Handbook of Medieval Central Europe summarizes the political, social, and cultural medieval history of Central Europe (c. ad 800–1600), a region long considered a “forgotten” area of the European past. The twenty-four cutting-edge chapters present up-to-date research about the region’s core medieval kingdoms—Hungary, Poland, and Bohemia—and also their dynamic interactions with neighboring areas.

This year, the Department of Medieval Studies is organising a series of open events to give prospective students a taste of studying with us. In particular, we strongly encourage prospective PhD students to join our How to Apply for a PhD workshop on 10 November. For prospective MA students, we have a series of open classes on topics that range from sexuality to manuscript studies.

Call For Papers: Medievalisms on the Screen III

The Department is delighted to support the next Medievalisms on the Screen conference to be held April 13th-15th, 2023. The organizers invite you to submit paper proposals on the subject of Digital Medievalisms and the Teaching of History no later than February 15th. 

Please sent proposals no longer than 250 words in length for a 20-25 minute paper to the organizing team at medievalisms@ceu.edu.

Webinar - The Middle Ages and Us

As part of this year's recruitment events, the Department of Medieval Studies will be hosting a webinar entitled "The Middle Ages and Us." On Friday 2 December at 3pm (CET), our PhD student, Jack Wilson, will be moderating a group discussion of faculty and students as they explore the impact of the medieval world on our modern lives.
