József Laszlovszky receives the 2020 CEU Distinguished Teaching Award

We are proud to announce that Professor József Laszlovszky, Director of the Cultural Heritage Studies Program, received a CEU Distinguished Teaching Award this year.

János M. Bak (1929-2020)

János M. Bak, founding member and Professor Emeritus of CEU Department of Medieval Studies has passed away on 18 June, at the age of 91. Until the last moment of his life, he was an engaged scholar, an authoritative and caring professor, an indefatigable worker for an international cooperation for the advancement of learning and the broadening of the ‘Republic of Letters’.

CEU Online Summer School in Codicology and Palaeography (July 6, 2020 - July 10, 2020)

The Summer School is a one-week, intensive, real-time (CET), fully interactive online course using Zoom. It comprises fifteen 90-minute sessions and gives a certificate of attendance and ECTS credits. The course (6 July - 10 July 2020) is aimed at PhD and MA students and young researchers and provides and opportunity to build research network. Deadline for application is 8 June, 2020.

Péter Bara receives the Academic Youth Award of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (2020)

We are pleased to announce that Péter Bara, class of 2013 graduate of the MA program of CEU's Department of Medieval Studies, has received the Academic Youth Award of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences for his research in medieval Byzantine philology. Péter is a PhD candidate and has been a young research fellow at the Academy's Research Center for the Humanities Institute of History since 2018. This year, altogether twenty-two scholars working in the humanities and the natural sciences have been awarded by the Academy.
