Commemoration

Natalie Zemon Davis (1928-2023)

October 24, 2023

The Departments of History and Medieval Studies are mourning the loss of a great scholar and friend of Central European University. To us, Natalie Zemon Davis was much more than an outstanding, inspirational historian whose seminal contributions have changed the face of the profession. She was a close friend of many members of our departments and of our entire community.

János M. Bak (1929-2020)

János M. Bak, founding member and Professor Emeritus of CEU Department of Medieval Studies has passed away on 18 June, at the age of 91. Until the last moment of his life, he was an engaged scholar, an authoritative and caring professor, an indefatigable worker for an international cooperation for the advancement of learning and the broadening of the ‘Republic of Letters’.
