In 1994, Péter Halász used the theatrical technique of re-enactment to bring our Eastern European past to life over a month. Day after day. In 28 performances. My talk recalls this project in order to discuss the Central and Eastern European Neo-Avant Garde theatrical events.

 

Magdolna Jákfalvi is a professor of theatre history at the University of Theatre and Film Arts, Budapest. She has published several books and articles on the topics of contemporary drama theory, both the Hungarian and the European Avant-garde, and the ways in which politics of memory interact with theatre.
