by the Cultures in Danger Student Initiative of the Cultural Heritage Studies Program at CEU.

17:30 - brief introduction to the movies.

18:00 - first movie-: Suddenly Sami (Min mors hemmelighet) 52 mins

The film represents a rather personal story. The author, Ellen Astri Lundby, in her adult life finds out about her Sami roots in Artic area of Norway. She seeks for answers and deals with issue of a new identity.

19:00 - second movie: Kautokeino Rebellion (Kautokeino-opprøret) 96 mins

The film is based to real life events. In 1852, in a small town of Kautokeino, a group of Sami, both men and women, rose against representatives of the Norwegian authorities, a local merchant and the newcomer priest. As a consequence, some of them were convicted to death penalty while others spent years in prisons.
