Organized as a part of the Sami Cultural Week, by the Cultures in Danger Student Initiative of the Cultural Heritage Studies Program at CEU.

Who are the Sami?

The Sami are the indigenous people of Scandinavia. They are also known by the name of Lapps or Lapplanders, a term they consider derogatory. The majority of Sami population is concentrated in Sweden, Norway, Finland and Russia. The Sami are proclaimed and protected by the United Nations declaration of indigenous people. 

The exhibition was created by the Cultures in Danger Student Initiative of the Cultural Heritage Studies Program at CEU to to raise awareness of the vanishing tangible and intangible heritage of a threatened indigenous culture in Europe, the Sami.

Opening of the exhibition: 17:30, CEU Octagon

Program:
- Nordic music performed by the Street Art Choir
- Introduction of the exhibition and the Cultures in Danger Initiative
- Opening speech by H.E. Pasi Tuominen, Ambassador of Finland in Budapest, H.E. Niclas Trouvé, Ambassador of Sweden in Budapest, and Mr. Arild Moberg Sande, Deputy Head of Norwegian Mission.
- Scandinavian Bookstall of the Nordic House

The opening ceremony will be followed by a  Pub Quiz on the Sami
at 19:00 in the Basement Café of the Monument Building.

Are you interested in different cultures or especially cultures in danger? Do you know the Sami or would like to learn more about them? Come and play quiz with the Scandinavian House Foundation at the Sami Cultural Week and test your knowledge.
