Croatia's top twenty research fellows
The Croatian Minister of Science, Education and Sport, Željko Jovanovic, announced the advancement to the academic title of docent of twenty young scholars on the basis of the highest criteria of excellence. These twenty scholars were selected out of one hundred and thirty seven applicants and were judgded in fifteen categories. Among them was an alumnus of CEU Department of Medieval Studies, Trpimir Vedriš, from the University of Zagreb. The scholars will now form an informal council for the Ministry, for consultations regarding proposed changes in the system of Croatian science. The Minister said that these scholars "are the future of Croatian science." Minister Jovanovic and his assistant, Saša Zelenika, presented this effort as part of a strategy of the Ministry to establish transparent and international criteria of quality in the selection of scholars for advancement.
