Medieval Studies Post-doc Wins Dumbarton Oaks Fellowship

February 24, 2010

The Department of Medieval Studies and the Center for Hellenic Traditions (CHT) very warmly congratulate Dr Réka Forrai (MA’01, PhD’08) – currently holding a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Edinburgh’s Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities – for having been awarded a highly competitive and prestigious fellowship at the world’s foremost research center for Byzantine studies, Harvard University’s Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection in Washington, DC, for the academic year 2010/11.

Dr Forrai will pursue an exciting research project, ‘The Papacy and the Spread of Greek Learning in the Medieval West’, as a follow-up to her distinguished PhD dissertation on Anastasius Bibliothecarius’ ninth-century translation project.

We wish Dr Forrai every success for her sojourn at Dumbarton Oaks, and thank her for her incredibly efficient coordination of the Center for Hellenic Traditions over the past four years.

With CEU PhD candidate Florin Leonte (MA’07) holding a Dumbarton Oaks junior fellowship this current academic year, Medieval and Byzantine Studies at CEU are receiving the distinction of sending fellows to Dumbarton Oaks in two subsequent academic years.
