The Department of Medieval Studies was formed in 1993 with 40 students, and was accredited by the University of State of New York in May 1994. Immediately in that year, the members of the Department participated in the First International Medieval Congress in Leeds, UK, and went on field trips to Western Hungary, Austria, "Great Moravia," Southern Bohemia and Prague.
A short history of the first decade of the department was compiled on the occasion of the ten years anniversary of the department by János M. Bak, Annabella Pál and Katalin Szende in 2003. See the attachment below.
The history of the second decade of the department is standing out from the Annuals of Medieval Studies at CEU, which give an overview of the articles of the department in the academic years.
