Research Focus Groups
In addition to the wide variety of topics that we offer in our instruction and supervision, the Medieval Studies Department has developed a Research Focus Group in
Students must register for the research focus with the director of the research focus by the end of the fall semester’s registration period and also indicate to the MA coordinator that they will be undertaking it.
Upon completion, a separate certificate will be issued by the Cultural Heritage Studies Program. The focus allows for an additional focus in the selected study field, but requires enrolling in elective classes related to these research groups among the current offerings of the department or among cross-listed courses. Focus group programs may or may not be offered every year.
Students must earn 10 elective credits in courses approved by the focus director as part of their over-all selection of electives. In addition, they must enroll in one 2-credit methodology class in the specialization each term (for a total of 4 credits), and the MA thesis must include substantial reference to the area of the specialization. If a course is approved for the focus it is noted on the list prepared by the focus director. During the Pre-Session, the director of the focus group makes a presentation at a special meeting dedicated to the focus.
