Anja earned her BA and MA in Classics at the University of Ljubljana, where she wrote her thesis on Ovid’s Metamorphoses, ancient hexameter and its adaptations in Slovenian and other modern languages. Following her specialization in classical philology, Anja continued her MA studies with a degree in Medieval Studies at CEU, where she was working on Pier Paolo Vergerio the Elder’s self-fashioning strategies in his orations (and some of his letters) in praise of St. Jerome, the epitome of erudition and eloquence. The topic has become the kernel of her dissertation and has been expanded into a comprehensive inquiry into humanist oratory and preaching on saints in general.
Besides the main focus of her research, Anja’s penchant for working with and on texts is illustrated by her love for paleography, related to pragmatic documents as well as medieval book culture. The translation of Latin humanist epistolography is also one of her favorite engagements and she has a particular fondness for the letters of Petrarch.
To complement the depths of the PhD working life, from time to time, she has been known to disappear into the cleansing air of the Slovenian Alps.
