The 29th International Congress of DAVO will take place in cooperation with the “Turkologentag 2023 – Fourth European Convention on Turkic, Ottoman and Turkish Studies“ in the University of Vienna on 21-23 September 2023. Faculty and students from our department will present papers on a wide variety of topics.

Leeds International Medieval Congress

Conducted over a somewhat rainy week, this year’s Leeds International Medieval Congress was well attended by CEU faculty and students. On the morning of Monday, July 3, our professor Anna Somfrai gave her keynote, addressing the genesis and working of the physical and intellectual networks embedded in and based on medieval manuscripts.

Leeds IMC Spotlight: The Netting of the Body, Senses and Soul in Late Antiquity from the 3rd to the 6th Centuries

Anastasia Theologou, who is writing her CEU PhD dissertation on Plotinus and Sympatheia, is organizing a panel at this year’s International Medieval Congress in Leeds, England. Her panel will present Neoplatonic ideas about the soul, senses and body in late antiquity from both Christian and pagan thinkers to an audience of medievalists from around the world. The four papers by Anastasia herself, István Perczel, Gaetano Longo and Andra Jugănaru will discuss interpretations by a range of late antique philosophers.

Prague Field Trip

Between May 22 and May 26, students, staff and faculty from the department visited Czechia on an academic field trip. Highlights of the trip included visits to the triforium of Prague Cathedral, the silver mines at Kut Hora, and archaeological excavations at Vyšehrad.
